Lots of my friends suggest me to consider a makeup artist to help do my bridal makeup. After a serious consideration and research, I decided to not hire one. Here's the reasons why:
Budget!!!
I've researched the cost of hiring a makeup artist. It is expensive. On average, they charge at least $100 for a bridal makeup and at least $50 for additional bridal parties. However, consider how much time and money makeup artists need to put into their career. I have no complain on what they charge. They are absolutely worth it. It just my budget is tight. I would rather spend this money on things that I have absolutely no way to do it myself.
I don'thave a big bridal parties
Other brides choose to have a makeup artist for very good reasons. They have lots of bridesmaids. It's more time efficient to have a professional to control the time needed for makeup than letting everyone take their time. It is also better to makeup sure the bridesmaids have similar looks that can go well with the dresses. Otherwise, the money spend on the uniform bridesmaid dresses will not be worth the bucks. Besides, some bridesmaids may not know how to put makeup on. Having a makup artist will definitely save the day!
For me, I only have one maid of honor and I am absolutely confident on her makeup skill. Olive and I can do our own makeup and our mother's makeup. It should not be hard.
Spend money as an investment not as a service
Well, I try to cheap out on the makeup artist but I have already spend more than a few hundreds on buying makeup supplies for myself. :P
For the same amount of money (hopefully it will be the same!) that I spend on makeup artist, I can use it to enhance my makeup skills. I see this as an investment because I can keep my skill for the rest of my life and I can use the makeup supplies repeatedly.
Time to practice
I have started my makeup practice for almost two months now. It's going pretty well. I managed the skill of putting on fake eyelashes. I also learned a lot on putting on eye shadows and create flawless skin.
If anyone would like to learn more about doing serious makeup, I recommend the makeup manual written by Bobbi Bown. It has lots of handy information for beginners. The book is very easy to understand and gives great tips on Dos and Don'ts. It guides me to choose the right formula and color for foundation, concealer, bronzer and blush. It also shows the correct way to apply different products by using the correct tools.
In the remaining half year, I am going to focus on practicing one bridal makeup look. I am going to learn it from the videos creating by a very pretty Korean makeup artist, Jen. If you are interested in learning some new looks yourself, please try her videos From Head to Toe.
My new makeup table arrangement
In order to improve my makeup skills, I rearranged my desk to a makeup desk. It may not look very professional but it works very well for me~ Thanks you honey for taking this photos~
New eye shadow pigments
I bought a full set of eye shadow pigment. Their color is absolutely amazing! See how good it is on Kahlua. hahahaaa!!
